DEAR Review #3

Hello, DEAR Students:

As previously discussed, you will be submitting a Book Review on THURSDAY APRIL 4, 2013 for DEAR.  Please note that this is a sigificant grade for the semester, and it can have a significant impact on your grade for this course.

When submitting your Book Review, please include the following.

1.  Your Book Review, computer printed, or neatly handwritten.  If  computer printed, please double space.  If handwritten, it must be in BLUE or BLACK ink, on looseleaf.   Assignments written in pencil will not be accepted.
2. A completed copy of the brainstorm sheet.  CLICK HERE for the brainstorm sheet. 
3. A copy of the RUBRIC.  
4. All components must be stapled.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THIS ASSIGNMENT CANNOT BE TURNED IN ANY LATER THAN THURSDAY APRIL 4.  ANY STUDENT WHO CHOOSES NOT TO SUBMIT A REVIEW WILL BE SUBJECT TO A GRADE OF ZERO, WHICH WILL SIGNIFICANTLY, AND NEGATIVELY AFFECT YOUR GRADE FOR THE SEMESTER.

D.E.A.R. Assignment #1

Hello, D.E.A.R. Students:

Listed below is an overview of the requirements for this course.

• For the most part, this class is SILENT. You are expected to be reading.  
• You will READ silently, and on your own. 
• DO NOT put your head on the desk
• Your book must be on the desk. 
• SIT AT YOUR DESK. DO NOT LOUNGE   
• You will be responsible for keeping a log of the time, and pages that you read in this class
• We will also use class time to write about what we have read
• You will be responsible for at least 2 book reviews per term.  They will be typed, and a minimum of one page in length. 
• If you do not meet these requirements, it is highly possible you will fail this course. 

Here is your first assignment: 

1.  Purchase a composition notebook for this class.
2.  Download, and print a copy of the DEAR class contract.  Review it, and have your parents sign the contract. 

2.  DOWNLOAD, and PRINT the D.E.A.R. Writing Prompt Sheet.  If possible, please print a copy for a friend/classmate.  You are responsible for pasting the WPS into your DEAR notebook. 

3. Review the list of pre-approved books by clicking on either of the following links

4. Based on the descriptions given, select a book for this class.  You can either purchase the book, or go to the library. 

5. If there is a book that is not on the pre-approved list, you may still be able to read it, provided you complete a Book Approval Referral Form (BARF).  Click here for the Book Approval Referral Form.
