D.E.A.R. Assignment #1

Hello, D.E.A.R. Students:

Listed below is an overview of the requirements for this course.

• For the most part, this class is SILENT. You are expected to be reading.  
• You will READ silently, and on your own. 
• DO NOT put your head on the desk
• Your book must be on the desk. 
• SIT AT YOUR DESK. DO NOT LOUNGE   
• You will be responsible for keeping a log of the time, and pages that you read in this class
• We will also use class time to write about what we have read
• You will be responsible for at least 2 book reviews per term.  They will be typed, and a minimum of one page in length. 
• If you do not meet these requirements, it is highly possible you will fail this course. 

Here is your first assignment: 

1.  Purchase a composition notebook for this class.
2.  Download, and print a copy of the DEAR class contract.  Review it, and have your parents sign the contract. 

2.  DOWNLOAD, and PRINT the D.E.A.R. Writing Prompt Sheet.  If possible, please print a copy for a friend/classmate.  You are responsible for pasting the WPS into your DEAR notebook. 

3. Review the list of pre-approved books by clicking on either of the following links

• Pre-approved List #2 

4. Based on the descriptions given, select a book for this class.  You can either purchase the book, or go to the library. 

5. If there is a book that is not on the pre-approved list, you may still be able to read it, provided you complete a Book Approval Referral Form (BARF).  Click here for the Book Approval Referral Form.
